Beast Within Us All


Black monday rolls around again,
reminding me of all the weekends sins. Shallow minded thoughts cloud times of change,
rememberance comes less often seemingly out of range.
The beast strikes gently at first
with the massaging green grass of humor.
Removing all doubt from your electrical mind
that the weed of pleasure was just a rumor.
Big beautiful green eyes,
Long flowing red laced hair.
She takes the edge off of life
lifting high the worries and care.
As you begin to lift up, floating with the birds
the smiles creep on you--your words become pure.
Reality is funnier now,
happy times are here.
Belly and cheeks in pain from use
the beast has put that whisper in your ear.
"Do you see those rolling mountain tops?"
"It's that way you should fly."
So you turn towards Mount Seratonus,
with gleams of joy in your eyes.
Swallow that pill of happiness
and get ready for the ride
the roller-coaster of ecstasy's
conductor starts the ride.
"Enjoy it while it lasts,
because soon it will be gone"
Dark roomed reality claws it's way inside
now you must be strong.
Your blanket is gone for now,
"oh when shall it return?"
The beast throws you another line
"come forward friend, feel this burn."
Why not do what's calling you
what else do you have to lose?
Ashamed you hide from the Lords of the game
but who really made the rules?
"Do you want to sharpen that edge on life?
Hone it to the teeth?"
"Then pull that blade from its
powder-coated sheath."
You have smelled it now, no turning back
you feel that power deep inside.
Along with it comes anger and rage
but soon that too will subside.
That little white line of truth
has so much power over me.
Sinking in those sharpend hooks
I hate what its made me see.
The play has run is course
mind and body slowed so fast.
The timeclock shows our time is up
and forget I will the past.
If it plays again, I will be there
in line to buy my ticket.
The beast will take my money at the door
and my life I'll give him with it.
